![]() ![]() Well I am immediately moving on now to 'Warlock', which is part 2 of this trilogy. it is a tale of redemption of a people, too, as they eventually make their way back to reclaim the land of theirs that has since been invaded. The other characters are very convincing, too.Lostris, his mistress, her lover, her husband, the Pharaoh, and the son she bears.Īnother aspect is the exodus they make through what we know as Upper Egypt, along the Nile, into real Africa.and what they discover there. its almost as though now at the end of this book I could almost 'sense' his presence in my own undertakings. a simple version of a flush toilet, he consults the Mazes, using psychotic herbs in order to divine the future, he is brought so powerfully to life. What especially draws me to Taita is that he is in reality an outside looking on the inside, yet still very much a Protagonist. well, 40 years later I find myself engrossed in the pages of 'River God'- living alongside the eunuch Taita who moves in between the stories of his master, the Pharaoh, and his beloved mistress. The first of Wilbur Smith's books I ever read was 'When the Lion Feeds'- about Africa, especially what has since become South Africa. ![]()
